Welcome to
Casa Rosa Blanca
Hosted by Viveka and Alan
Ojochal, Costa Rica
We welcome you to our home away from home. It was tempting to give such a house a descriptive name about jungle living, quite sunsets, or ocean views, but we decided to make it more personal. We’ve combined our last names (von Rosen and White — RosaBlanca) for a classical, romantic and dreamy setting that we think befits the Spanish feel of this open and airy luxury villa. We want you to relax and enjoy the sounds of the jungle, the view of the ocean, and the Spanish warmth of the house. We hope you enjoy Casarosablanca as much as we do.

About the House
Built in 2016, this 3,200 square feet ranch home on 3/4 acre in Phase 8, Ojochal, Costa Rica boasts spacious luxury with soothing ocean breezes and amazing sunsets. We’ve named the rooms to simplify the tips-n-tricks of enjoying your stay.
Cool Breezes
Casarosablanca has been designed to take advantage of the breeze. At night, you can lock the metal doors for security, close the screens to keep the bugs out and leave the glass open to maximize your comfort. Keep the indoor fans on at a speed that is right for you. Or, if you prefer, sleep in an air-conditioned room, as each bedroom has air conditioning. When the air-conditioner is on, PLEASE close the doors and windows.
High Tech Solar
The house is hooked up to both the power grid, as well as solar. The solar system is state of the art (2021) and directly powers the wall outlets, the lights, the hot water, the refrigerator and the fans. The ACs, as well as the pool pump runs on the Electric grid. Please ensure that doors and windows are closed when the AC is on.
WiFi
There is WiFi throughout the villa With the mesh setup, you should be able to login from anywhere in the villa. We have 2 internet services in case on fails (the failover is automatic). The SSID is Quiet Sunset and the password is purlif4. For the remote workers and tech nomads (like us) we were shocked to see that the bandwidth and throughput is as good as, or better than we get from home. The local ISP has equipped the home with optic fiber. We pay for 75 mps which should be more than enough for video conferencing, Skyping the kids/grandkids or watching a movie on Netflix. Keep in mind, there is the occasional outage.
Security
The extra security measures are primarily to protect the property when it’s vacant, but offers peace-of-mind while you are home, or out sightseeing. We have a security alarm for doors and windows.
Camera system. There is only one camera inside the house which is directly above the kitchen. We have this to monitor while the house is vacant. There is a convenient place to “unplug” this camera while guests are in residence. The other cameras monitor 2x7 to the cloud.
Keyed security gates
Alarm set while you are away.
Locking up.
We highly recommend locking up, and setting the alarm when you leave. Crime in the area is opportunistic, please be aware when you go the beaches and don't leave valuables in your car.
Emergency phone numbers:
Wendy: WA
Alan: WA 970 214 8162
The Gate
The automatic gate can be opened by number pad. You will be given your code before you arrive. The gate will open and then automatically close 30 seconds later. Please make sure the gate has closed completely before driving away. The gate has a backup battery should the power be interrupted, and on solar to replenish the backup battery during a power outage.
Pool Area
We have recently overhauled the pool, so you should find it in perfect shape to float or swim laps or relax in. Enjoy looking out over the infinity edge as the sun dips below the horizon of the ocean. Please only use the plastic glasses provided around the pool area.
The outdoor BBQ is gas and is hooked up. All you have to do is light it. You can see the spark in the control panel. We recommend cleaning the grates after cooking to ensure it’s ready for the next meal.
The Countess’s Master Suite
Big enough for royalty, one lucky couple (or person) will enjoy this spacious, calming blue bedroom. Most of the year you will find the temperature is perfect with the windows open and the fans on. Especially during the night time when you can hear the chatter of the crickets, night birds, frogs and geckos. But if you prefer AC and more quiet, close the windows and crank the AC unit! (Just remember to turn it off when you open the doors and windows).
There should be plenty of room for your bathing suits and flip flops in the master builtin closet. You will find additional bedding and towels in the upper cupboards and under the sink in the bathroom.
Speaking of bathrooms, enjoy the extra spacious tub and large shower. Although once you discover the joys of the outdoor shower, you may never use the indoor one!
You might notice that one of the glass windows has been removed from the master bathroom shower. That was done intentionally to allow for more airflow. (You will notice there is a lot of humidity in the rainforest!)
The Jungle Guest Room
The jungle guest room, green key ring, is the guestroom closest to the jungle! It has a large built in closet and its own bathroom. As with the main house, the gates can be closed and locked with the screens allowing for airflow. Or there is an air conditioner if that is preferred. Both guest bedrooms have queen beds and extra linens. As well as a desk for those who might want to work.
The Ocean Guest Room
The ocean guestroom with the red key ring, is the guest room right off of the carport and closest to the main house. It also has its own bathroom, gates and keys for additional privacy. It also has a queen size bed, and a desk as well as built in closets.
The Great Room
While I expect most families will enjoy most of their time by the pool, in the evenings you might want to congregate around the 70 inch TV. You should be able to watch any shows you want on Netflix and Prime. Or if you have your own computer with you, we have left an HDMI cable for you to plug-in so that you can watch movies from your laptop.
And yes, there is Internet in every room. So the kids can continue with their noses in their phones. Or you can just take them away for the week :-)
The kitchen is well equipped. There is a silverware drawer, but it’s kind of hidden. To the right of the cooktop, which is gas, and underneath the security monitor, you will notice a big drawer with bigger utensils. Look a little more closely, and you will see there is a additional hidden drawer. That one has all the silverware. The chef’s knives are in the butcher block holder next to the fridge. If you’d like to turn on the LED light for the turtle glass in the kitchen counter, there is a remote (should be on the counter top) for choosing the color.
To the left of the cooktop is the drawer with the coffee supplies. There should be enough coffee and sugar for a few days. You may want to buy more while you are here. And definitely more to take home with you!
There should be plenty of different cups plates saucers pans and cooking utensils, including the necessary blender and coffee machine available for your use.
The Monkey Office
There are two additional rooms in the house. The Sailing office and the McCaw office. You can potentially use these rooms for their intended purpose, as an office, if you are a digital nomad. Or if you are just here on a vacation, you could potentially create a space for additional guests, although they are small. Or ignore them entirely.
The McCaw Office
The McCaw office has a nice bookshelf with some paperback novels and other books. Please feel free to take any you would like and read them by the pool. Or leave any behind that you don’t want to lug back in your luggage.
The Bodega
Hopefully you will never have to go into the bodega. But if there is an issue with the solar or Internet or when the pool or gardening folks are around, they may need access. In this case contact Wendy or Alan to deal with the issue. We can direct you to the key and basic instructions.
Environment
The property sits on 1 3/4 acre of secondary rain forest. The property includes the area from the road to the house, and then down the hill from the pool 40' into the gungle. In the manicured area we have 150+ variety of plants and trees. If you would like to know the name of any of the plants, here's a few:
Plants and Trees
Plumaria
Banana Tree
Ylang ylang tree
Vanilla vine
Black pepper vine.
Elephant ears
Wildlife
We are in a jungle environment, filled with wildlife. The grasshoppers are as big as sparrows, the sounds of the birds and frogs is constant, and we regularly get animals passing through. If you have the chance, please snap a picture so we can add it to our collection. I’m new at recognizing the sounds of the birds and identifying the unique critters of Costa Rica, but here’s a few.
Capuchin Monkey. We've had them come visit the house. There are some berries in the tree behind the bamboo. That's where they would be likely to be.
Howler Monkey - we hear them daily. They are quite loud, and they start the day with a call. It’s a way for them to communicate their position. Other howler tribes respect the call-out, and avoid the area. In this way howlers can eat in peace and rarely have to fight other tribes for territory.
Coati - The coati look like a cross between a raccoon and an ant eater. We’ve had them across our yard, and he will often see them near the road as well.
Toucan - makes a very loud call. Google the call, and listen for them. We hear them daily as well, and see them hanging out in the trees.
Parrot 🦜 - parrots regularly fly over the house. You’ll recognize them by their loud chattering, and also the fact that they too fly in pairs.
Macaws(pair)- While the macaws tend to hang out closer to the ocean, occasionally you will see a pair of these long tailed beauties flying across the ocean view.
Road Hawk - During our first stay here, Alan rescued a road hawk out of the pool, they bonded. He occasionally comes back to visit. I hope you will be blessed with a visit from him while you were here.
